Turbulent times for Sri Lanka - only just begging to recover from Covid and internal chaos drives any tourists from returning. The hangover of Covid looms and the desperation of people is palpable. Almost every hotel they’re turning the lights on for me to enter and stay. People are queuing for days to get two litres of petrol.

A beautiful experience of having a country almost to yourself but knowing why was a difficult conclusion. I can count on both hands how many tourists I saw over a week.
